Research Associate

Maxine is a Research Associate with the CREATE initiative and brings her experiences in postsecondary leadership, teaching & learning, EDI (equity, diversity & inclusion) and educational research to this role.

Maxine’s doctoral research was focused on classroom assessment validity in postsecondary settings. She explored how validity, otherwise known as ‘assessment fairness’ or the appropriateness of assessments to promote student learning, could be further conceptualized through the values of reconciliation, EDI and sustainability. Her research also had the express purpose of being socially accountable to students.

Professionally, Maxine has held roles as a postsecondary department Chair, an academic EDI leader, and newcomer language program coordinator. Maxine has extensive teaching experience in the areas of: English as a Subsequent Language, adult education and assessment, and communications.

Maxine is a second generation immigrant and settler on Turtle Island whose parents are both survivors of settler colonization in their countries of origin. Is it through these lived experiences that she relates to social accountability research within postsecondary education, policy, community and employment. It is her hope that through her work she can uphold Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action 6ii and 10iii.
