Alexa Curci is a Research Assistant Intern working under Dr. Barb Zelek within the Dr. Gilles Arcand Centre for Health Equity. Alexa graduated from Lakehead University with a Specialized Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and received the Canadian Psychological Association's Recognition of Academic Excellence Award for her honours thesis, which explored the relationship between personality and childfree stigma.
Following graduation, Alexa worked at Lakehead University as a Research Coordinator for the Substance Use Research Group and the Coping Research Lab. Alexa also has experience in community-based work, through her past role as a Mental Health Service Worker with the Canadian Mental Health Association, where she supported youth involved in the justice system.
Alexa is interested in expanding her experience in health and community-based research and contributing to efforts that improve health equity and access to care in Northern communities. Outside of work, Alexa enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending time with her family.
