Expanding the team at the Dr. Gilles Arcand Centre for Health Equity

December 4, 2023

We are pleased to announce that Jessica Jurgutis, PhD is joining the Dr. Gilles Arcand Centre for Health Equity team at NOSM University as the Centre Manager. Jessica is an accomplished researcher whose skills in research administration and management will be invaluable to helping to grow the Arcand Centre.

Jessica’s appointment comes at a critical juncture as the Centre embarks on expanding its research and outreach programs. Jessica’s proven research leadership skills, coupled with her deep understanding of health equity issues, position her to effectively navigate growth within the Centre.

In the words of the Centre Director Dr. Erin Cameron, “Jessica’s background will bolster the Arcand Centre’s emergence as NOSM U’s flagship research centre, dedicated to advancing a team with the knowledge and expertise to advance socially accountable and equitable research structures and processes. She brings significant experience to the Manager role and we are thrilled that she is joining our team!”

With a Ph.D. in Political Science from McMaster University, Jessica deeply understands working with complex social and political issues. Prior to joining the Arcand Center, she held an academic position at Lakehead University, where she was cross-appointed between the Departments of Gender & Women’s Studies, Indigenous Learning, and the Social Justice MA Program. Her academic work has to date been distinguished by her engagement with marginalised communities and critiques of carceral and colonial violence, and her commitment to addressing health access and outcome disparities, particularly for Indigenous, criminalized, and equity-seeking groups.

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Jessica Jurgutis. We are confident that her contributions will significantly advance our vision of a more equitable and socially accountable health landscape.
